Acupuncture has successfully treated a variety of conditions, illnesses and injuries for thousands of years.
How Does Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture is based on the idea that energy circulates throughout the body along interconnected pathways known as meridians.
When the circulation of this energy becomes blocked or unbalanced, the result is pain, illness and discomfort.
By stimulating the meridians through specific points on the skin, ancient healers discovered they could redirect the flow of energy in the body. They could restore balance — the root of good health.
How Are the Meridians Stimulated?
I insert hair-thin needles into the skin or use non-insertive techniques that do not break the skin.
What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?
I insert needles ever so slightly so they just barely penetrate the skin. Typically you will not feel the needles at all.
Most patients find the treatments pleasant and relaxing, and may even fall asleep.
Sometimes you may experience a soothing rush of warmth or a cooling sensation move through your body, maybe some achiness too. These are the effects of your energy pathways being stimulated.
What Are Non-Insertive Techniques?
I employ two Japanese styles of acupuncture: Shakuju Therapy and Toyo Hari. These especially gentle methods rebalance the body without breaking the skin.
