About Acupuncture
Acupuncture has successfully treated a variety of conditions, illnesses and injuries for thousands of years.
How Does Acupuncture Work?
- Acupuncture is based on the idea that energy circulates throughout the body along interconnected pathways known as meridians.
- When the circulation of this energy becomes blocked, the result is pain, illness and discomfort.
- By stimulating the meridians through specific points on the skin, ancient healers discovered they could redirect the flow of energy in the body. They could restore balance — the root of good health.
How Are the Meridians Stimulated?
I insert hair-thin needles into the skin or use non-insertive techniques that do not break the skin.
What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?
- I insert needles ever so slightly so they just barely penetrate the skin. Typically you will not feel the needles at all.
- Most patients find the treatments pleasant and relaxing, and may even fall asleep.
- Sometimes you may experience a soothing rush of warmth or a cooling sensation move through your body, maybe some achiness too. These are the effects of your energy pathways being stimulated.
What Are Non-Insertive Techniques?
I employ two Japanese styles of acupuncture: Shakuju Therapy and Toyo Hari. These especially gentle methods rebalance the body without breaking the skin.
